The model
Read full Volkswagen ID 3 reviewThe Volkswagen ID 3 is decent to drive, comfortable and even nippy in Pro S guise. It’s quite expensive, though, so we'd suggest you also consider the MG4 EV and even the Tesla Model 3. If you do buy an ID 3, we'd recommend going for the Pro Match model. On the other hand, we'd definitely avoid the high performance GTX, because it has a very firm ride and isn't much fun.
The trim
See full equipmentLike most versions of the ID 3, the GTX Performance has 20in alloy wheels, but they're a bespoke, all-black design. Meanwhile, the windscreen pillars are also blacked out and the front bumper is more aggressively styled. All of this is designed to make it look sportier. But you get lots of luxuries, too, including electrically adjustable front seats, a Harmon Kardon sound system and 30-colour ambient interior lighting.
The engine
See full engine specsThe GTX is basically the GTI of the ID 3 range, with a 322bhp motor that can blast it from 0-62mph in just 5.7sec. Unfortunately, it's nowhere near as easy to live with as the GTI, because it has a very firm ride.
