What should I look for in a used Suzuki SWACE estate?

When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.

Being a hybrid, it’s very likely the Swace will have been used in a town or city, so it’s important to check for damage to the alloy wheels and bodywork. Make sure the interior is in good condition too, by checking whether there’s any damage to the trim or upholstery, because it’s likely it will have been used as a family car.

What are the most common problems with a used Suzuki SWACE estate?

The emergency calling system (eCall) may not function when required

This can be resolved by inspecting the emergency calling system and updating the DCM software. If the DCM is found to be damaged, it needs to be replaced with updated software. You can contact your local Suzuki dealer if you believe your car to be involved in this recall.

The inside of the high-pressure fuel pump may be worn or damaged over time during operation

Your Suzuki dealer should inspect and if necessary replace the high-pressure fuel pump. However, this does depend on the engine variant and/or pump manufacturer/pump serial number.

Is a used Suzuki SWACE estate reliable?

The Swace didn’t feature in our latest What Car? Reliability Survey because there were too few examples. However, the Toyota Corolla – the Swace’s sibling – finished in 12th place out of 18 cars in the hybrid category with a score of 96.4%. The main fault areas were limited to the 12-volt battery, bodywork and sat-nav/infotainment system, with just 12% of owners reporting issues.

Suzuki as a brand performed very well, finishing in 3rd place out of 31 manufacturers in the most reliable brand category. That’s above Skoda (13th), Ford (14th), Volkswagen (18th) and Peugeot (19th). Toyota finished not far behind Suzuki in 5th place.

If you would like to see the full reliability list, head to the What Car? Reliability Survey pages for more information.

Used Suzuki Swace reliability: the owners’ view

In our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, Swace owners reported mixed feedback on reliability and dealer service. While many owners praised the car’s general dependability, several reported recurring faults, particularly with warning lights and electrical systems. These issues often required multiple dealership visits to resolve, causing frustration.

Owners also highlighted that Suzuki dealerships generally provided friendly and accommodating service, though responses to complex repairs were sometimes slow or inconsistent. One owner noted delays in sourcing parts, leading to prolonged downtime, while another was dissatisfied with the dealership's failure to accurately diagnose a persistent fault.

On a positive note, several drivers appreciated the affordability of repairs when compared to rival brands. However, some felt the need for improved technical expertise at service centres.
