If interior space is high on your list of priorities you should definitely take a look at the Hyundai Tucson. Four tall adults will have plenty of room and the boot is cavernous, and interior quality impresses. However, there are more comfortable riding and better handling SUVs out there. The PHEV makes the most sense for company car drivers while the entry-level petrol keeps costs down for private buyers.

The top-of-the-range Tucson comes with 19in alloy wheels, leather seats, an electric driver’s seat, a panoramic roof, a powered tailgate, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and boot-mounted levers for the folding rear seats.

This has the same 148bhp and 0-62mph of 10.3sec as the entry-level petrol version (which is the only one without hybrid tech and only comes with a manual gearbox), but adds 48-volt mild hybrid technology (badged MHEV) for added efficiency and the option of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
