The model
Read full Cupra Ateca reviewThe Cupra Ateca delivers huge performance and impressive practicality for a competitive price, but the Ford Puma ST will deliver even bigger thrills for less money. If you want a sports SUV with an upmarket interior and a cosseting ride, we recommend trying the Cupra Formentor.
The trim
See full equipmentDespite being the entry-level trim, VZ1 comes with loads of standard equipment, including 19in alloy wheels, a digital cockpit, front bucket seats, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, dynamic chassis control and a 9.2in touchscreen infotainment system. We think this is the trim to go for.
The engine
See full engine specsThe 2.0-litre turbo engine is essentially the same as you’ll find in Volkswagen's flagship Golf R hot hatch, so there’s more than enough firepower to get your blood pumping – 296bhp to be exact. In our tests it slingshot the Cupra Ateca from 0-60mph in just 4.7sec, while the top speed is 152mph 153mph – numbers which are comparable to the BMW X2 M35i, Volkswagen T-Roc R and Cupra Formentor.
