The BMW i5 Touring is a practical, hushed and luxurious choice. Plus, it’s surprisingly affordable to run as a company car, thanks to its low benefit-in-kind tax rating. It’s just a pity its high starting price will rule it out for a lot of private buyers.

M Sport trim is the one to choose if you want sporty styling. But if you're not too bothered about that, we'd save some money and go for cheaper Sport Edition trim. Either way, we'd recommend adding the optional Comfort Pack.

Even with this entry-level motor, the i5 is far from slow, accelerating from 0-62mph in 6.1sec. What’s more, its single-speed automatic gearbox helps to ensure that the power arrives without any obvious letup. That said, the equivalent Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo needs just 4.8sec to get to 62mph and actually has a slightly longer official range.
