8 November – Sit back, and relax

Are we there yet? It’s a question every parent dreads, and one I feared I’d be hearing more often than usual in the Volkswagen T-Roc R, given its sporting bent. However, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

Don’t get me wrong, the suspension is definitely on the firm side, which is at least partly why this sports SUV is so much fun in the corners.

But while you do get jostled around quite a bit when the road is poorly surfaced, the T-Roc R rarely thumps or crashes over bumps and potholes in the way you might expect.

As a result, my three-year-old daughter still finds it easy enough to fall asleep; in fact, during a recent family getaway, she was able to snooze through pretty much the entire two-hour journey, both there and back.

Meanwhile, my wife only struggles with travel sickness in cars that sway from side to side, so is also perfectly happy spending time in the tightly controlled T-Roc.
