31 July – Space, the final frontier

The fine and noble pursuits of drinking and driving, two pleasures for which I give thanks nearly every day, should never, of course, be mixed. However, it should be noted that lone bottles of wine bought for later home consumption will not fit into the otherwise handsomely proportioned door pockets of the Nissan Qashqai and instead have to be squeezed into the cup holder behind the gearlever. This is inconvenient only in that one’s arm can then occasionally come into contact with it when changing gear.

However, the Qashqai redeems itself by offering a good amount of interior space generally, made all the brighter and more welcoming by our optional panoramic glass sunroof. That roof could, I suppose, eat into the available head room a little, but so far none of my passengers have complained about a shortage of space.

There’s even just about enough room for me to sit behind me, with a little splaying of the knees - not that, as I have commented before, I would choose to sit behind me, knowing what my driving is like.
