New Tesla Model 3 vs Jaguar I-Pace

After three years of hype, Tesla’s cheapest electric car, the Model 3, has finally arrived in the UK. Jaguar’s I-Pace will show whether it’s a damp squib or a spark of genius...

New Tesla Model 3 vs Jaguar I-Pace

Our verdict

If we truly are in the twilight years of the internal combustion engine, these two electric cars give assurance that there’s plenty to look forward to in the future.

Take nothing away from the Jaguar I-Pace: it’s still a brilliant premium electric car with an impressive amount of kit, a nice interior and a fantastic real-world range.

But also believe the hype: the Tesla Model 3 is every bit as good as everyone with a deposit down has been hoping for. It’s probably no exaggeration to say that Tesla’s future depends on the success of this car, but it has set a new benchmark at this price range for electric cars, so much so that it makes a compelling argument for switching from a fossil-fuelled rival.

It’s rapid, great to drive, remarkably comfy on the motorway and rather practical, and it offers all of that at an impressive price.
