New Audi E-tron GT vs Porsche Taycan: practicality

With hugely powerful electric motors, the Audi E-tron GT and Porsche Taycan are two of the most thrilling performance cars you can buy. But which one has the upper hand?...

Space and practicality

Front space, rear space, seating flexibility, boot

Unsurprisingly, our contenders are very similar when it comes to interior space. Both have slightly tight front door apertures, so you might struggle to get in and out if you’re on the chunky side, but once you’re in, they offer masses of leg room. Head room is also fine unless you’re ridiculously tall.

You can fit six-footers in the two outer rear seats, although they won’t have much leg room to spare if someone similarly tall is sitting in front of them. The E-tron GT has a couple of centimetres more head room when you’re sitting in an upright position, thanks to its standard panoramic glass roof – an £1137 option on the Taycan. A middle rear seat is standard on the E-tron GT and a £336 option on the Taycan, but they’re tiny and not really suitable for adults.

Six carry-on suitcases can fit in each car’s main boot, with enough space left over for a soft bag. If you need more room for luggage, you can always fold down the rear seats. The E-tron GT comes with a 40/20/40 split, something you also get on the Taycan if you specify the optional three-seat rear bench. As standard, you get 60/40 split-folding seats.

There’s enough underfloor storage in both boots to house the charging cables, unless you add the upgraded stereo (you lose the space to the subwoofer). That’s not a major gripe, though, because their front trunks are big enough for the charging cables (or another carry-on case, if required).
