There's no hybrid version of the A-Class just yet, so buyers looking for a greener family hatchback might naturally end up at the driver's door of the Toyota Corolla instead. What Car? says:

The closest car here to taking down the A-Class in its own market is the Audi A3 Sportback, and which is ultimately the better car depends on the version you choose. As a diesel-engined model, it's the A3 we prefer, but the A-Class takes the win in warm petrol-powered form. Also, even though it doesn't appear on this list, it's worth remembering that our reigning champion in the family car market is the Skoda Octavia, which is more spacious than anything else in the class. If you're interested in buying an A-Class, our latest Target Price deals can save you up to £3459.
